Chocolate Cake Recipe
Ingredients
- For Chocolate Sponge
- Self raising flour 130 g
- Coco powder 40 g
- Baking powder 3/4 tsp
- Caster sugar 205 g
- Eggs 2
- Coffee 1 tsp + 1 tbsp hot water
- Milk 40 ml
- Margarine 75 g
- Boiling water 5 tbsp
- For Butter cream
- Butter 150 g
- Icing sugar 150 g
- 54% Chocolate 60 g
- Coco powder 20 g
- Milk 2tsp
Directions
- Preheat your oven at 160 C.
- Grease 2 six inch round pans with butte or oil then line them with parchment paper.
- Add 1 tbsp hot water in 1 tsp coffee, mix it and set a side.
- Melt margarine a bit so its runny and soft, do not over heat.
- Now for the chocolate sponge add in 2 eggs in a bowl, followed by margarine, milk, coffee.
- Then sift caster sugar, self raising flour, baking powder and coco powder on top of it.
- Start beating it with a hand beater until its mix then add boiling hot water and beat again until you see a smooth mixture.
- Do not over mix.
- Now divide the mixture into prepared cake pans equally.
- Bake at 160 C for almost 25 minutes.
- Take out and let cool completely
- Now for Chocolate Buttercream, melt chocolate in microwave let it cool a bit then take room temperature butter, butter should be very soft.
- Start beating the butter for almost 1 minute then add sifted icing sugar and coco powder, beat it until smooth.
- Then add melted chocolate, beat it until mix
- To finish and smooth the butter cream add in 2 tsp milk, beat again until its smooth.
- Butter cream is ready.
- Now for Layering, place 1 chocolate sponge on a plate, spread half chocolate buttercream on it, top with second chocolate sponge layer and finish with the remaining buttercream. Spread the chocolate buttercream to the edges nicely.
- Decorate with white chocolate shavings.
